The Land of Opportunity

The land of opportunity. This phrase has been used to describe the United States of America and has been the driving force behind the want and desire of millions of immigrants to come here and apply themselves and improve thier quality of life. Unless you are a full blooded native American, then some member of yor family took a very big chance. They took a chance on opportunity. An opportunity to work hard and make a better life for themselves and thier families. They left everything they had behind in another country, boarded a ship and headed to an unknown future in an unknown land. Unknown that is except for the opportunity that awaited.

Those that say immigrants built this nation are correct. Immigrants that left thier homeland for an opportunity to own thier own land. An opportunity to practice thier religion freely. An opportunity to elect leaders. An opportunity to speak thier minds. An opportunity to succeed beyond thier wildest dreams. They took a chance and a very big chance. A chance that relied upon opportunity.

For those immigrants that took that chance, opportunity was incentive. Incentive enough to drop everything they had known for the chance to live a better life. To escape religious and political persecution. To leave a meager existence for the chance at a better one. They knew the chance they were taking was a risky one. They knew they may fail and the opportunity may be lost. But that chance to have that opportunity was incentive enough.

They knew that having the opportunity to work hard doing what you wanted to do with minimal outside interference could lead to a better life. It was what drove them to want to succeed. The opportunity was the incentive to come to America. The incentive to be here was the opportunity to succeed. And that is what built America. Opportunity and incentive raised the buildings to the sky. Opportunity and incentive created goods and services and the jobs needed to produce those goods and services which in turn provided more opportunity and incentive. Opportunity and incentive for which all of our forefathers risked everything. Risked everything for us.

Some of us still hold those beliefs of our family members who immigrated here to be true. That when opportunity is provided, we must take advantage of it for the betterment of ourselves and our children. Some of us still believe that the sole function of government is to ensure that the opportunity to succeed is there. To provide the incentive for an individual to grab life by the horns and make good for himself, and then to get out of the way and let him do it.

Our forefathers didn't ask for 'bailouts". They didn't ask for stimulus. They didn't ask for the government to provide for them. They didn't ask the government to help them when they failed. They simply asked for an opportunity to do it on thier own. An opportunity to succeed. And I believe history to show that they did a pretty good job.

We are moving away from this with our current government believing they are the sole provider for the people and some of the people welcoming them with open arms. As you give your opportunities away read back on this and think: Could I have done better myself?

Recession, Depression, What, Michelle Worry? "In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much," she said. " That's why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service, " - Michelle Obama No, Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First Lady and she doesn't perform any official duties. But this hasn't deterred her from hiring an unprecedented number of staffers to cater to her every whim and to satisfy her every request in the midst of the Great Recession. Just think Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary. How things have changed! If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Miz Michelle are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. x.php/article/12652 There hasneverbeen anyone in the White Houseat any timethat has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she "needs" so much help, at taxpayer expense, when even Hillary, only had three; Jackie Kennedy one; Laura Bush one; and prior to Mamie Eisenhower social help came from the President's own pocket. Note:This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and "First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom travelled aboard Air Force One to Europe.
I hope, oh Lord I hope, I am around when something like this happens again...
So, Obama and the dems have dismissed the protesters at the town halls as an angry mob that was organized by the evil insurance giants. They have called us racist and right wing loons. Then they say that they are going to fight back and they send in the union thugs! Yesterday in St Louis (my hometown) the union thugs beat the crap out of a black conservative for giving away t-shirts. They put the guy in the fucking hospital! Obama has this blood on his hands, Pelosi is guilty. We will not go away!!!!!! We will fight for our country! Fuck the unions and Fuck Obama!
Well Smashey i will just keep hammering MM on it till he does.
I want apart of the debate between hawk and imagine...but I want to add this. Hawk- Good women like your wife and mine dont like liberal panty waist men, they like real men-conservative men. Men that is gonna handle business at work and home. These yenta's with these "girly men" now are missing out. Go get you a real cowboy or conservative guy and they will treat you right.
I agree but am not looking for that to happen anytime soon.
well if it is. he needs to be a man and grow up and add something to debate and not post anon.
Yes Smashey is right. I am still waiting for Mr. Honor to come on and apologize for this attacks this wk.
If it is or if it isn't it is just as fake as the rest of the new profiles that have popped up. It's 'supposedly' MM's brother who got in an a ccident and is living with MM. Whatever. LOL. Either way it's a BS fake as are the majority of the rest of them. They r too easy to spot.
lol if that is MM, it is sad. I hate when people do that.
Taliasin (MM), you are busted. Flat out. You are no good at fake profiles or logging on as Anon. Quit being a pansy ass and say what you have to say under your own profile. And as for your PM you sent trying to convince me....it sucked as well. You are busted, you suck, now own up and be yourself.
Lol. I think the newest ones make them the best - they still remember the rules of civility.
Of course, the guy who made my burger was one of the shift managers. Does he get paid more than the dishwasher? Freakin' fascist profiteers...
If you pay the burger flipper and the CEO the same, we will all become burger flippers with no restaurant until the government builds one. And the one the government builds will not last since it will be built by burger flippers, not educated construction experts. After all, who would go to school to be a construction expert when you can make the same amount flipping burgers? I was watching the guy at Five Guys Burgers And Fries last night make my burger. I love grilling. I would gladly take his job if I could make what I do preparing taxes. I mean taxes are fun, but the season is very stressful. I'm not saying working in fast food is easy and never gets stressful, but I wouldn't mind working an 8 hour shift every weekday of the year including January through April and not spending several years in school.
Everything else was just icing on the cake, and to the benefit of the wealthy who were honestly just looking for futher profit, and a bit of anarchy in the form of less taxes, and self rule (meaning they could do whatever they wanted to because they were the new kings of their land). Not quite so glamorous and honorable as the tales we learn today.
Hmm, I find this a bit intersting. We all do have a very glamorized and "noble" public school education knowledge of our history, written by the victors, and public school dictators (state boards of education) who very finely hand select what textbooks we read and what knowledge is passed on. I challenge a great much of it. There are a great many letters in private hands, and also in national archives (not easily found by the public not specifically looking) proving that this nation was in fact founded by profiteers - the Mayflower herself carried as many or more private businessmen looking for money and their mercinaries as "pilgrims", who simply purchased passage as there was extra room. That is how America was really founded. It was about money, to be brutally honest. I have seen, and held, the family letters regarding the Mayflower, and ships after, and seen documents from family in later years regarding this founding of America. What we do with her now is up to us.
Well, we all know that you will be the next site president, so you'll get your chance ;)
I know I can do better.
i hope that tali is really musicman because it would prove that stupid runs in the family, and that's bad since he has a big family lol
What did u go call your brother on that one? Maybe he should stop hiding behind u and own up to his smear attack.
Evidently so do you. My real name is Wayne. and you have missed out on a friend. When you grow up perhaps you won't accuse people you don't know of doing what they haven't. You and Smashey need to learn that lesson. Must be nice to hate anyone without cause while excusing it to yourself.
MM spreads hate.
I'm not my brother. Smashey proves however it doesn't matter. Thats what is wrong with the country as a whole. Hate for one of the same ... what stripe? Family? Color? I guess it isn't relevant unless one is liberal or black. Thanks for the heads up.
yea if Mr. Honor man had any balls he would be on here an aplogize for his attack on me and others here on u4prez but I guess we know who is the little boy now.
Proof once again that MM is busted and too big of a pussy to be himself. Thank you, ill be here all week! Nite MM you beeyotch.
Taliasin your brother attacks me for working on the hill as an intern and for being rich and tries to smear me? What a fucking joke. I thank God its folks like him that are not running this nation.
Maybe he is right, and there isn't a damned one of you the time. Good night children of the corn. Thank God our country is not in your hands.
lol Smashey
Oh so now u are his older brother. LOL. MM you are busted once again. Give it up man and just be yourself. LOL. This is funny shit.
So because I am his older brother I owe you an apology?
I honor the fact that he has crappy fakes and has to hide behind them because he cant debate for dick.
I know so much for MM and his "honor"
LOL Erock. MM/Libertybel/Taliasin wont apologize. What ya thinkin man? LMFAO
Well MM u still owe me an apology for that blog u launched against me.
I agree MM.
You were warned about this but there was no proof. There was indications and limited proof yet you ignored it.
Take this as an example. This was a blog pasted by another. I am repeating it. Is this what you want for America? or AmeriKia? Take a look at what actually is in the Health Care bill. Obama makes disingenuous comments like "You'll still keep your doctor" or "You'll keep your existing health care." He is either lying to us or he has no idea what is in it. Take a peek at the full report, or look at some of the highlights here: Pg 22 of the HC Bill mandates the Government will audit books of all employers that self insure . Can you imagine what that will do to small businesses? Every one will abandon “self insurance” and go on Government insurance. So when Obama says that there will still be private health care, it’s simply a lie: this mandate will force employers to abandon their private plans. Pg 30 Sec 123 of HC bill – a Government committee (good luck with that!) will decide what treatments/benefits a person may receive. Pg 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill - YOUR HEALTHCARE WILL BE RATIONED! (We all knew this, because health care is rationed in Canada and Britain, but Obama kept saying it would not be). Pg 42 of HC Bill – The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC Benefits for you. You will have no choice! PG 50 Section 152 in HC bill - HC will be provided to ALL non US citizens, illegal or otherwise. Pg 58 HC Bill – Government will have real-time access to individual’s finances and a National ID Healthcard will be issued! Pg 59 HC Bill lines 21-24 Government will have direct access to your bank accts for election funds transfer PG 65 Sec 164 is a payoff subsidized plan for retirees and their families in Unions & community organizations (read: ACORN). Pg 72 Lines 8-14 Government will create an HC Exchange to bring private HC plans under Government control. PG 84 Sec 203 HC bill - Government mandates ALL benefit packages for private HC plans in the Exchange. PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill - Specifics of Benefit Levels for Plans = The Government will ration your Healthcare! PG 91 Lines 4-7 HC Bill - Government mandates linguistic appropriate services. Example - Translation for illegal aliens. Pg 95 HC Bill Lines 8-18 The Government will use groups, i.e. ACORN & Americorps, to sign up individuals for Government HC plan. PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill - Specifics of Benefit Levels for Plans. AARP members - your Health care WILL be rationed. -PG 102 Lines 12-18 HC Bill - Medicaid Eligible Individuals will be automatically enrolled in Medicaid. No choice. pg 124 lines 24-25 HC No company can sue Government on price fixing. No "judicial review" against Government Monopoly. pg 127 Lines 1-16 HC Bill - Doctors/ AMA - The Government will tell YOU what you can earn. Pg 145 Line 15-17 An Employer MUST auto enroll employees into public option plan. NO CHOICE. Pg 126 Lines 22-25 Employers MUST pay for HC for part time employees AND their families. Pg 149 Lines 16-24 ANY Employer with payroll $400k & above who does not provide public option pays 8% tax on all payroll. pg 150 Lines 9-13 Businesses with payroll between $251k & $400k who don’t provide public option pay 2-6% tax on all payroll. Pg 167 Lines 18-23 ANY individual who doesn’t have acceptable HC according to Government will be taxed 2.5% of income. Pg 170 Lines 1-3 HC Bill Any NONRESIDENT Alien is exempt from individual taxes. (Americans will pay.) Pg 195 HC Bill -officers & employees of HC Admin (the GOVERNMENT) will have access to ALL Americans’ finances and personal records. PG 203 Line 14-15 HC - "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax" Yes, it says that. Pg 239 Line 14-24 HC Bill Government will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors, low income, poor affected. Pg 241 Line 6-8 HC Bill – Doctors – doesn’t matter what specialty – will all be paid the same. PG 253 Line 10-18 Government sets value of Doctor’s time, professional judgment, etc. Literally, value of humans. PG 265 Sec 1131Government mandates & controls productivity for private HC industries. PG 268 Sec 1141 Federal Government regulates rental & purchase of power driven wheelchairs. PG 272 SEC. 1145. TREATMENT OF CERTAIN CANCER HOSPITALS - Cancer patients - welcome to rationing! Page 280 Sec 1151 The Government will penalize hospitals for what Government deems preventable readmissions. Pg 298 Lines 9-11 Doctors who treat a patient during initial admission that results in a readmission - Government will penalize you. Pg 317 L 13-20 OMG!! PROHIBITION on ownership/investment. Government tells Doctors what/how much they can own. Pg 317-318 lines 21-25,1-3 PROHIBITION on expansion - Government will mandate hospitals cannot expand. pg 321 2-13 Hospitals have opportunity to apply for exception BUT community input required. Can u say ACORN?! Pg335 L 16-25 Pg 336-339 - Government mandates establishment of outcome-based measures which of course forces health care rationing. Pg 341 Lines 3-9 Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Adv Plans, HMOs, etc., forcing people into Government plan. Pg 354 Sec 1177 - Government will RESTRICT enrollment of Special needs people! Pg 379 Sec 1191 Government creates more bureaucracy - Telehealth Advisory Committee. HC by phone. PG 425 Lines 4-12 Government mandates Advance Care Planning Consultations. Think Senior Citizens end of life prodding. Pg 425 Lines 17-19 Government will instruct & consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney. Mandatory! PG 425 Lines 22-25, 426 Lines 1-3 Government provides approved list of end of life resources, guiding you in how to die. PG 427 Lines 15-24 Government mandates program for orders for end of life. The Government has a say in how your life ends. Pg 429 Lines 1-9 An "advanced care planning consultant" will be used frequently as patients’ health deteriorates. PG 429 Lines 10-12 "advanced care consultation" may include an ORDER for end of life plans. AN ORDER from the Government to end a life! Pg 429 Lines 13-25 - The Government will specify which Doctors can write an end of life order. PG 430 Lines 11-15 The Government will decide what level of treatment you will have at end of life. Pg 469 - Community Based Home Medical Services/Non profit orgs. (ACORN Medical Services here?) Page 472 Lines 14-17 PAYMENT TO COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION. 1 monthly payment to a community-based organization. (Like ACORN?) PG 489 Sec 1308 The Government will cover Marriage & Family therapy. Which means they will insert Government into our marriages. Pg 494-498 Government will cover Mental Health Services including defining, creating, rationing those services. You’d better speak up now before you are on the "advanced care consultation" list. Recently I had a talk with a colleague (one on my side of the aisle) about the increasingly dire threat posed to this country by the unholy trinity of Obama/Reid-Pelosi/ and the media. The upshot of this person's question to me was, "What can you say that will give me some hope? Some optimism? Is there a way we can reach the kids, the students, and the younger people?" We aren't quite "done" yet, but the old thermometer is edging up by the day, and I don't mean global warming. Cap and Trade (i.e., "cap and tax") has passed the House and our hopes of avoiding federal enviro-nazis swooping into our homes and clamping down "do not sell" restrictions on our houses until we comply with their inane regulations hangs on the votes of a few left-wing Democrat senators who in the past have shown no inclination to challenge Harry Reid. (You see, the Democrat Party has this habit of actually punishing so-called "mavericks" who criticize Dem leadership.) Real-life Gong-Show refugees such as Al Franken now will vote on your right to drive what you want and eat what you want. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. There is new twitter about the C02 pollution of computers. Once the computer becomes the next SUV, what sites, exactly, do you think will be deemed the most "polluting?" You got it: Drudge, FreeRepublic; Redstate; and a host of conservative sites. Guess which ones will be ok? Huffington Post, MSNBC, and Daily Kos. But it gets worse: the National Socialist (that would be Nazi, if you were in Germany) Health Care system that is now about to come up for a vote will absolutely eliminate private health care options. Do not kid yourself: They are going to say that they aren't going to interfere with your right to go to your "own doctor" or have your own "private health insurance." But there won't be non-government doctors or private health insurance if the government mandates them out of existence. Do not forget that this was a major goal of Hillarycare just 15 years ago. Once people found out, it caused a firestorm – but times have changed. The media was atrocious then, but it's a 100 percent propaganda machine for the Left today. A few holdouts, such as Fox and Rush, remind me of the brave Dutch shouting at the storm troopers before they were gunned down. If Health Care or Cap and Tax fail, the media will see it as the failure of their guy, and in their view, Obama must not be allowed to fail. Even still, I hear people who want to "get past all this partisanship." Sorry, but GROW UP. Our system from the beginning has pitted one group against another out of fear of the very giant government that is metastasizing before our eyes. James Madison didn't like "parties" or "factions," but he finally admitted that they were absolutely necessary to fragment power. In Washington today, however, we nearly have one political party: the Democrats, who march in lock step with Obama while the cowardly Republicans who, aside from a few heroes (John Kyl, Jeff Sessions, Jim DeMint come to mind in the Senate, and most of those remaining in the House), are merely "me-too Democrats." For our system to work there has to be a clear choice, not a mushy middle, because the mushy middle always, always, always gravitates left. There is a "presumption of power" on the left –conservatives, by nature, do not like government, don't trust it, and do not want to use it to advance their ends, which they see as advanced through liberty, individual achievement, and entrepreneurship. If Republicans do not unite 100 percent –and soon – behind the idea that the unholy trinity must be stopped dead or we will not have the American Republic that we have all known all our lives, it may soon be too late. Maybe it's time all of you got just a little mad. Larry Schweikart
Bottom line to Imagines point that the workers should be equal: When that happens where is the opportunity for the smarter, more educated or harder working person to move forward? Answer that and i'll buy into your socialist/worker system.
Exactly Friday. Now if state and local governments want to do something that is up to them and their state do work out.
I don't know, Moderate. I've read the constitution and I didn't see "safety net" in there anywhere.
Name one safety net that the government has run sucessfully? Because social security is going broke, and medicare/medicade are going broke as well. Also in you read histroy and MD can touch on this better then I can communities and churches used to be the safety nets. Take the Irish for example in Boston they would have elders who would collect money for the poor and help them out and try to find them jobs etc. today well its different and it shouldnt be. I try even though I am unemployed to donate a few bucks to charity because their are people worse off then I am. If I was able to when I get a job to keep more of my money I would donate more add it look at this cash for clunkers people were donating them to charities but thats only a 500 write off on taxes vs the thousands for a new care gusse who is hurt? the Poor.
This blog is so right on but it also makes you wonder what appropriate role does government have in providing a safety net for people.
American Greed makes me a good burger with no waiting time for less than $5, with fries and free refills. And the kid flipping my burger will be paying my social security checks when I'm retired and he's an educated tax preparer, or doctor, or lawyer, or garbage man, or McDonald's store owner, or middle aged man with his brain fried on drugs, no high school diploma, 3 kids with 3 women, still flipping burgers at McDonalds. Imagine, it's not my fault if you choose to not take advantage of the opportunity that American "greed" provides every American.
Plus the stock holders!
CEO's are more scrutinized by the board of directors than direct labor will ever be. They are on the line for making profits for the company. Some people in life can only climb the social economic ladder so far before they level out. That is there own personal problem, and has nothing to do with "the system". Quit crying about it. When I was young and dumb like Imagine I used to think rich people had it easy. Until I worked for them and found out that they work five times as hard, with more hours put in than some of their employees. You have to have competent people around you to maintain success, so attaining loyalty is a must. And being loyal to a company or your employer is also a must. It doesn't mean that you are a sellout. Its part of becoming a man. But when you get your philosphy of life from rock music, you are doomed to failure and poorly written blogs.
I worked with guys and woman who worked at McDonalds for a very long time in their 30s and 40s and their is no way that they would know how to run a company of that size.
LOL Friday. BBL guys. Dinner time.
If you live to deffend the greed of corporate America, that's your decision. Each man will be juged according to his actions. I'm on the side that believe in a good days pay for a good days work, not a the least amount of money corporate cna get away with for a good days work. I'm for the side that deffends the working class against those with the power. Each man will be judged according to his deeds.
personally, I would rather be a 16 year old stupid kid flipping burgers with the opportunity to become a super-rich CEO than a 50 year old burger flipper in a government owned burger joint with the hope of being retired long enough to enjoy it before my healthcare cuts off.
Hey Imagine, the difference between the CEO and the Burger flipper is that the CEO is a burger flipper who got an education when he was a stupid teenager, worked hard, learned professionalism, learned and developed skills over years of work and has earned his position. The burger flipper is still a stupid teenager. You find me a 16 year old burger flipper and a 16 year old CEO with the same level of education, stand em side by side, then we can make some sort of honest comparison.
I ask you this Imagine - Could the guy flippin burgers do the CEO's job? No. Could the CEO do the burger flippers job? Yes. All jobs are not equal to the business and all jobs do not have the same skill set and responsibility level. If a burger flipper wants to be the CEO then he or she should work to gain the same skill set and knowledge and go for it. They shouldn't get it because they are the ones that flip the burgers.
I am sorry but no burger flipper is worth what a CEO makes anyone can do the job in about 5 minutes. If u don't like it go to another job. And guess what who picked the regulations and the menue that allowed me to enjoy the resturant? The CEO and his advisors did. Who hired the waitress? O right the Manager did. Who ensured that the cook must have x y z skills or right again the CEO and his staff. Who invests the capital to start a company o right the founder and CEO.
You, as a burger flipper, are essential to mcdonalds. Maybe YOU personally aren't. We're all replaceable. But the job is essential. Say every one decided they weren't going to flip burgers anymore. All hamburger joints would go out of business. Whould you make billions to flip burgers? No. Should you make shit while someone else makes billions? No. Why can't the CEO make millions instead of billions and pay their workers a good wage with good benefits? Greed. That's why. Workers are essential to businesses. Workers create the wealth. When was the last time you tipped a waitress well because you like the CEO? When was the last tiem you decided you'd make Denny's your regular restaurant because you like the CEO? Never. You tipped the wiatress because she worked and brough you your food and refilled your drink. You went back because the cook made good food and the waitress was so nice. Workers create the wealth, and should be paid a good wage with good benefits. The difference between the socialists and corporatists is that we see the real value of hard work and believe workers should make what they earn, not what the CEO decides they should make. Workers of the world, unite. You have nothing to lose but your chains, and you have a world to win.
Right because whats easier to do create a new government program that hands out money or elminate one? Really Imagine when I worked at McDonalds flippin burgers I should make what the CEO of the company makes? lol I am sorry but that is a crock of shit I choose to work their and if I didn't like I could have gone some where else but I am proud that I put in my time their and the hard work I did.
I agree with soem of this. I fail to see how everyone just wants the government to hand everything out to them. Personally, as a socialist, I believe all workers are important and because they are all important to our economy, they should all share proportionatley in the fruits of their labor.
I bumped this from when I wrote it in Feb. I think it pertains today more than even then.
I would like to take a moment to warn everyone.... I just posted a new blog and the picture is HUGE.... it is a close up and I don't want anyone to be frightened.
Thank you for the kind words Kemp. In regards to Arjays statement, he sort of gets the point behind the post. It has less to do with socialism and the free market and more to do with working to succeed and working for the future instead of asking for handouts. Sometimes failure happens in both government and business and usually because of poor decisions. Poor decisions happen also. Learning from them and getting back on the horse and racing ahead is the point. Not asking for someone to give you a new horse and lead you to the finish line.
I was making that point to Liberal411 not too long ago when he was raving about religion, I told him, if you think about it, everything you find in a religion, you find in American nationalism.
Well why shouldnt we believe that things will get better? Why shouldnt we believe that we can move up the ladder? I sense alot of hoplessnes from some of my friends on the left. I also sense alot of turning this faith in government into a religion as well.
If there is one thing I cannot stand, it is the personification, even the deification, of the free market. It is economic theory, much as the Religious Right will tell you evolution is a theory. At best it is a tool, it is what it is, depending on who uses it, it can be a tool to bring prosperity or bring suffering. Having faith in the invisible hand of the free market sounds almost like a religious statement. Let the market decide is sort of like saying it's God's will. Well, if it's God's will, and the market is going to decide, where do we as consumers fit, except at their mercy?
Truth is, the market itself is to blame. The market loves socialism when it suits its interests; but loves capitalism as well. You think these banks are crying because of these bailouts? As poverty welfare goes; so should go corporate welfare, IMO.....I would have been okay with Obama letting Wall Street go bankrupt; and using the stimulus to get new businesses started. The way the government is thinking right now; they would have bailed out the horse-and-buggy business after the invention of the Model T.....I am fine if the government wants to front the money initially; but let the market use innovation and creativity to decide what jobs need to be replaced, and what jobs need to go......MF
Thank you for articulating the sentiments expressed in this post. They are true and accurate and bring us back to some of the intrinsic values and principles that led to the creation of our government. Values and principles which are slowly but surely being legislated out of existence. It is refreshing to see works of merit such as this on u4prez and had I not seen it was authored by you, one of the more respectable candidates on u4prez, I may have passed up the pleasant opportunity that reading your post presented. Keep up the good work.
As to the spirit of the original blog, Smashey brings up a concept lost on modern America. It is the concept of shared sacrifice. It is the belief that brought immigrants here from around the world, not that they would get rich quick, not that they may ever live better than they did in their mother country, but if the family stayed together, if they scrimped and saved every dime, if they worked their tails off, maybe it wouldn't pay off in their lifetimes, but their children would benefit. In the stories of many families, it took two or three generations before they got out of the tenements and into a house. It took two or three generations of working in the mines before enough wealth was built up to talk about starting businesses or sending the kids to college. No man in his right mind would work in a mine, or in a factory where the slightest slip meant the loss of a hand, a leg, a life, to which the boss just kicks you to the curb and hires another just like you. These are things about Americans that are forgotten in this age of instant self-gratification. Your grandparents don't tell you their stories to tell you how rough they had it, they tell them to you so you can appreciate what you do have. They couldn't ask for the government to help them because there was no such thing as government assistance. People didn't have a choice but to work 12 to 14 hours a day, literally seven days a week. It's the failure of the present education system, history is taught from the top-down, it talks about presidents and ideologies and nations, but it no longer talks about the people these things affected; a concept like slavery is thrown out there, but if you thought about what people in such a position went through, it would shake you to your bones. While I find the dreamy monologue misleading, I do agree with the point, if the point was intentional, that the concept of shared sacrifice is of a bygone era. These are the Americans that built this country, not the capitalist who put up money instead of sweat, and not the plantation owners who relied on slave labor. For as much as you remember soldiers on Memorial Day and Pilgrims on Thanskgiving, instead of counting them like statistics or calling them brutes because they didn't go to college, remember workers on Labor Day.
If you want to know about socialism, ask a socialist, not someone who is so scared of the concept that he cries bloody murder whenever someone talks about raising taxes. Socialists know their own, and Obama is not a socialist. He is a Democrat, a political party in the pocket of corporate interests, as much, if not more so, than the Republicans. Every step up the ladder, he accepted special interest money. Obama has no interest in abolishing corporatism, but rather to make it work again. That's not socialism. I like Obama as a person, he's a smart guy, but if you talk to socialists, more hardcore than I am, he ain't so socialist.
We must restore habious corpous first of all
Are you serious he's the most socialist since FDR he wants to expand government more then ever a continuation of policies as usual more government more taxation more damage to privacy. When are you goinmg to learn that less government, less taxes is the answer to our problems
Obama's no socialist, but one thing I liked about the guy is, when McCain and Palin and the entire Republican Noise Machine were shouting HE'S A SOCIALIST the loudest, he was laughing about it, knowing it was a ridiculous statement. He made a comment in a rally that they'll find anything to call him, they're calling him a socialist because he must have shared his sandwich with another kid in grade school. As the days of the campaign wound down, he'd say he can take four more weeks of these kind of games, but America can't stand four more years of Bush-McCain policies. I call the ability to smile under such pressure, to crack a joke when 45% of America is trying to tie you to Karl Marx, grace under fire.
You obviously don't knwow hat socialism is, or you don't know that I am a socialist or you just like to construct a series of beliefs and attribute them to me just to win a debate. But if thats what you need to do, go for it.
far from it! I don;t agree with your view on how government should function in our country, you don't agree with my view. I understand that I will not change you and I hope you understand that I will never become a socialist. Now, this is really my last post for the evening, my wife has been patient and I think she is starting to question my sanity.
I'll take that as a concession haha. Have a good one, man.
You're just ranting against Obama because he kicked your guys' asses in the election and people didn't listen to the GOP's bullshit about him being a terrorist muslim communist (mostly because it was made up bullshit). The guy won for a reason. When he starts screwing up, believe me, I'll be with you. I've already criticized the guy for things he's done. I'm not going to want him run out of town just yet. He wasn't my first choice for the job, but he was better than the other ones. The ones your party nominated that said they didn't know much about economics, and didn't know what they read, and refused to condemn their supporters for shouts to kill an innocent man, and supported Bush almost constantly and didn't want to end the Iraq war and wanted to outlaw abortion even in cases of rape, and wanted to blur the line between church and state and so on and so forth. -------------------------------------------- I call that a rant... and it is full of bull shit that is not supported in fact. NOw, I don't care if you rant and make things up but, you may want to step of your highhorse while doing it. Just a thought.
now I really must go and spend some time with my wife. You have a nice evening and try to lighten up and enjoy youreself... life is to short.
I believe I've adequatley deffended my socialist beliefs. You apparently can't invalidate them. Like you, i enjoy debating politics. But its not really a debate if you invalidate an ideology then attribute it to someone who does not believe in it just to try to defeat them in a debate. Thats what you started getting at here. I don't think I've gon on any "liberal rants". I tyr to be sure that anything I post is supported by factual evidence.
Listen .... you need to lighten up just a bit. I come her to enjoy the debate. You think that we are actually going to fix the worlds problems here on this website. I call them like I see them, you may not like that so may I suggest you ignore my post because I doubt your liberal rants will change me in any way. Now on to your fantasy.. you believe that a man will risk his life savings to start a small business if he knows the government will take 90% of his profits. I disagree, I know I would not. If you give that man some incentive to start the small business and don't weigh him down with taxes and regulations then he can prosper and hire people to work for him. If you give the man he hires incentive to continue working then he will. if you leave more money in his pocket then he might start his own business. I think that every man should work to support himself and we should ALL pay our FAIR share of taxes. If a man is down on his luck then we should all pull together and help him. If a man decides to lay around on the couch all day smoking pot and wait for me to pay his way then I say SCREW HIM! I refuse.
So you admit that you just made up some beliefs (i.e. everyone having the same no matter how hard they work) and attatched thm to me even though they are not my personal beliefs? Okay then. Secondly, you can't challenge my challnge to you. You iplied that the incentive to make money is being taken away. I asked you to show me where, and apparently you can't. The ones your party nominated that said they didn't know much about economics, and didn't know what they read, and refused to condemn their supporters for shouts to kill an innocent man, and supported Bush almost constantly and didn't want to end the Iraq war and wanted to outlaw abortion even in cases of rape, and wanted to blur the line between church and state and so on and so forth.
suppers ready..... damn I have a great wife! ........ She has a good job, she pays her taxes she cooks, cleans, takes care of our bird.... man, I sure have it good. All you liberals out there that want a great life like I have... Obama can not supply you what I have, you have to work hard to get the house to clean and you have to be able to bullshit the ladies in order to land a wife like I have.
oooohhh that was a jab... it appears it worked. I chalenged your incentive bullshit. what else ya got?
Reread it. You said, "I knwo you want everyone to have the same thing in life no matter how hard they wrok or don't work". I think you're chellenging me for being a communist even though I'm not a communist. Please explain what you meant.
I just reread my post and I did challenge you idiocy. Now put down your pipe and reread what I posted and read it slowly so you get the full understanding of what I said and then we can talk.
I love how you just make up beliefs and attatch them to me instead of challenging my real beliefs. haha.
If you think I am a rich Republican think again.... I work hard for everything I have and I want the next guy to do the same. I condemned the previous administartion for the out of control spending, I was against the first bail out and the welfare checks that were sent out in the form of a tax rebate. I will rail against spending no matter who is in the whitehouse. I knwo you want everyone to have the same thing in life no matter how hard they wrok or don't work. I kind of like America the way our founding fathers set it up. If I wanted to live the way Obama wants us to I would move to a socialist country. By the way.... Bush did not invent the bailout. I will also add.. If you raise the highest tax bracket to 90% watch what happens. You must give people incentive to work. I allready work through the month of may to pay my taxes. If it is all the same to you I do not want to extend that date to Novemeber so you can have healthcare. The system needs fixing but it should not be scrapped.
Hawk, I love how you embrace the free market and the republican party at the same time you condemn the bailouts. The Republican president came up with the idea of bailouts and the capitalist business owners begged for them. Then they called it "socialism" to try to make us think that socialism is ruining our country when it's actually the free market. And to anyone that is claiming that the incentive to make money is going to be taken away, I challenge you on that one. Show me one instance where taxes or anything else has been a deterent to making a lot of money in modern day America. And as long as we think like Hawk and Smashey that only some of us deserve to not die due to a lack of healthcare, we will be forever chained down by the capitalist class trhat exploits the many in order to make more for themselves, the few.
I don't hate poor people, I used to be one. I worked three jobs to get myself in a position to not be poor. While working those three jobs I fed my family without the help of the tax payers. I am sick of the woe is me crowd. I don;t mind helping those that are in need, I hate helping crack heads that keep pumping out kids for the tax credit and the food stamps.
Oh come on now people. I have the right to build a constituency of government dependents. I have a mandate! The American people voted for this change. Those that want entitlements can have HOPE that the rest of you will work to pay thier bills. Now that's the American dream! Why do Republicans hate poor people. They depend on you.
thats right... in this world of Change and Hope the incentive to prosper has been taken away. Soon it will be better to quit paying your mortgage and quit your job and just let Obama take care of you. This is what the Democrats want, they could care less weather you are happy and successful. They want you to be dependent on Governemnt so that you will keep voting for the ones who will cut you a check. It's all about power and retaining that power. Look at the census, Obama wants to take it over so he is in control of redistricting house seats. This is all about power and nothing else. The unfortunate thing is that there are ,many lazy ass Americans that will buy into this type of crap and the rest of us are screwed.
When you create more tax consumers than tax payers, the system is upside down (see Social Security. When you take away the incentive to succeed that's exactly what you do and that's why your system has and is failing everywhere it is tried. When the incentive to succeed for those who pay the taxes is removed, those who are dependent on them to provide are up a creek. And the American dream can be realized. I know many that have, including myself. The difference is we don't sit around waiting for someone else to help us.
You are correct Imagine in that in your perfect world it can't be done. Socialism doesn't allow for it. It rewards stagnation and punishes success. I'll take my way, you take yours and maybe someday i'll give you a job.
haha. Latter** I don't believe I spelled it like that. >_<
The only thing you forgot to as is that during the time of our Founding Fathers, America was run by our forfathers and the American people. Now our country has such an influence from big business that its damn near impossible to defeat it. It can be done. It has been done. The impoverished have risen to become among the wealthy. Rarely. In modern day America to say it is possible to climb way to the top of the ladder is true. To say that anyone can do it is utterly false. To quote George Carlin, "the table is tiled, the game is rigged. It's called the American dream because you're dreaming if you believe it."
