Congressman John Fleming's House Resolution 615:
Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that members who vote in favor of the establishment of a public, federal government run health insurance option are urged to forgo their right to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP)and agree to enroll under that public option.
Will it happen? Rep. Fleming's website has a list of those Representatives that have signed on to the resolution. If you read the names you will find one party is conspicuously absent. So if the advocates truly believe that the plan is the best for everyone why should there be any names absent from this resolution? Does it seem funny to anyone else that the names that are absent are all advocating the plan for you and I? Hmmmmmmm. Good enough to force on you but not quite good enough to sign on to themselves. And they wonder why public support is dropping. Could have something to do with a little thing called credibility.
Rep. Fleming made the following statement to explain his resolution:
"Over the past few weeks, members of Congress and the American people have come to know the details of the Administration's proposed health care plan. Call it whatever you like, I believe this proposal is nothing more than government-run health care. As a physician, I am amazed at the number of bureaucrats in this House who are quick to claim a government-run health care plan is the reform this country needs. In response to this, I have offered a resolution that will offer members of Congress an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is, and urge their colleagues who vote for legislation creating a government-run health care plan to lead by example and enroll themselves in the same public plan. Under the current draft of the Democrat health care legislation, members of Congress are curiously exempt from the government-run health care option, keeping their existing health plans and services on Capitol Hill. If Members of Congress believe so strongly that government-run health care is the best solution for hard working American families, I think it only fitting that Americans see them lead the way. Public servants should always be accountable and responsible for what they are advocating.
Together we will work to ensure that any plan that is good enough for American families is good enough for every member of Congress."
Whether you are against the plan or are for it, it is very difficult to deny the Congressman's statement. There should be no hesitation to sign up for the plan if it is truly the best option for the American public. Or at least you would think so.

Exactly Hawk. The fines are designed to make not using the public plan either unaffordable for the individual or cheaper for the businesses. People that can't afford insurance as it is will not be able to pay the 'fine' and will have to 'choose' the public option. Most large companies will gladly pay an 8% of their payroll fine because in most cases it would be cheaper than paying their part of the insurance plans for their employees. Those employess would then lose their employer based insurance and have to take the public plan. The choice is there in mere appearance.
Plus the VA is there for Veterans. It needs reform to reduce red tape. But Smashey is correct. And FNG does not understand that Doctors with reduce pay would leave the field. Thus creating more shortages.
smashey is correct, the "choice" is a lie.
Question for you FnG. If all the uninsured go to the VA where do the doctors come from to treat them?
Chronic the public option is about choice but also makes that choice an unviable option. The fines that the legislation will put on individuals who don't buy ins. will force them into the public option. The fines that the legislation will levy on the businesses makes it the cheaper option for them to pay the 8% fine than to carry insurance on their employees. That will force more into the public option as well. The 'option' of the public option is a fallacy because of the built in mechanisms that will force everyone into the public plan. Show me how or why that won't happen and i'll agree. Until then congress either needs to nut up or shut up. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
FNG your new plan is as stupid as the last one.
The money saved from no more medicaid can be used to beef up the VA health Centers to meet the need.
I have a new plan that will tide us over until Republicans quit being retarded and we can convert to a National Health insurance. It's simple. All veterans will be insured for life through a special medicare provision. Scrap medicaid and open up the VA health system to the uninsured.
This blog is based on a misconception. No one is saying the public option will be the ebst health care there is. They are saying it will be quality affordable health care. Secondly, the public option is about choice. I you have good health care and you don't want the public option, you don't have to enroll. If you want to, you can. It seems unfair to force representatives onto the public option when other people who ahve insurance won't be forced. So I have a better idea, and maybe I should make a blog about this one: If your a congressman or a senator and you vote against the public option, you should have to give up your government health care. No one who votes against the public option should participate in FEHBP. Hows that for ya?
Any government plan advocates care to comment on this?
Good point E. It couldn't damage future deficits anymore than the reform package they are planning to mandate on us
Why not give us all the option to have the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program seems to be good for Congress! Nice blog Smashey.
Ok, I have always said that modern day leftists are a hypocrisy based political institution.
The fact that they refuse to live by their own rules simply proves it. This resolution needs to be made to look like a prelude to any vote on comprehensive health management and care reform legislation. The people should make it known that we consider this a resolution of faith. One that indicates to us that if this resolution fails, it will be evident that Congress does not have enough faith in their reforms to commit themselves to the same health reform package that would be mandated on others. This is the type of thing that people must flood news outlets with letters to the editors about. We must make it clear that if they do not pass this resolution, than we know that surely will not mandate us to buy into it. Great post Smashey!
