After House Democrats passed a 1,990 page bill that would have the government takeover health care in America, today, in an unusual Saturday session, Democrats in the US Senate have voted to place their own 2,074-page bill that would have government takeover healthcare in America. Democrats claim that the bill is the answer to all our problems. They ignore the fact that it will raise taxes, increase a shortage of healthcare givers as well as increase the size a nd cost of government by $2.4 trillion dollars, place bureaucratic, political appointees between people and their doctors and ultimately place all health care procedures under the control of the federal government, including the decisions you should be able to make for your own self when it comes to the care you feel you need.
The procedural vote taken tonight, overcame a big first hurdle for Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. With many Republicans prepared to call for a filibuster, the liberal led Senate needed all 60 of its Democrat Senators to overcome the process that would have allowed the opposition to kill the bill and prevent it from coming up for a full and final vote.
In a strict party line vote, Democrats avoided a filibuster with no votes to spare.
This now means that the Senate can actually begin debate on their bill any time after their Thanksgiving recess.
There was some initial doubts about this procedural vote. Several Democrats made their apprehension over the bill known and in the end, Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu was found to be the 60th vote that the liberal side of the aisle needed. Landrieu was among 4 skeptical Democrats who were possibly ready to vote with Republicans on the bill. But one by one Lincoln of Arkansas, Baucus of Montana and Lieberman of Connecticut made it known that they will vote to allow debate on their healthcare measure to begin. Landrieu soon followed suit.
But not until she received a legal bribe.
On page 472 of the senate healthcare reform bill, Landrieu was promised 100 million additional federal dollars to Medicaid subsidies. But only for states that qualified for it. And what were those qualification? In two pages devoted to this money, it essentially came down to qualifications that only Mary Landrieu’s state of Louisiana met. Clearly, for her vote, Harry Reid secured the sending of money to Landrieu's state as a form of down payment for her reelection bid next year.
So as expected, Democrats got their way. Their government takeover of healthcare, lives to see another day. But one must ask, if it took $100 million to get just one Senator to knuckle under, how many more hundreds of million will Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi convert into to pork that will bribe members for the final approval of government run health care?
At this rate, we will be have spent all the money they wanted to use for their government takeover.

Yes Social Security is broke again u fail to READ and UNDERSTAND FACTS also the US Postal system is BROKE it clearly costs more to send a piece of mail then 47 cents. Also Social security would be phased out silly baby. Also Medicaid if I kept that money I would have my own healthcare plan by now. Not sending it into some sytem that is broke. Now FNG I know your not very smart and that you defend the federal system to no end but please try to leave the hard choices to those of us who are living in reality not your dream world. Also you clearly are not thinking out side of the box charities would step up and maybe people would stop relying on the government as u want them to do. I know that scares you but it does not scare me. Also u silly babay the GOVERNMENT IS BROKE!
Erock I would argue that the US postal system is not "broke", the Social Security system is not "broke". A carte blanche statement that says every government program is "broke" is as ignorant an idea as the next. Sometimes, naturally, the government must administer programs that affect the entire country. In fact, Medicare is an effective and efficient program that has covered millions of the elderly over the years. Medicaid is entirely too expensive, simply because there are few federal guidelines and it is run essentially by 51 different bureaucracies in a helter-skelter fashion, with unequal treatment from state to state. And as far as the postal system goes, it works but is suffering from the exact same dillemma as the rest of American industry - saddled with health care costs for it's employees, for whom they must purchase super-expensive private health insurance (I cannot imagine the corruption involved there).
Erock, would you eliminate Social Security? How would you handle starving elderly, particularly ones that have been working for companies whove gone bankrupt and frittered away retirement funds? Erock, Kempite - you talk about clicking your heels and making problems go away, well will clicking your heels fix a broken leg for an old lady who fell down the stairs, or see to it that the old crippled couple doesn't have to eat garbage out of garbage cans. As a society we must have in place a means of dealing with people who are unable, for whatever reason, to keep themselves alive. That doesn't mean we cannot require responisble behavior out of people, but it means the systems must be in place for thsoe that need it. Unless, of course, you'd simply like to go back to survival of the fittest, in which case, fine with me, I'll survive.
To correct the dollar signs here, Landrieu has stated she will receive $300 million instead of $100 million. Either way you are correct, it's pure bribery.
The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775 - you’ve had 234 years to get it right; it’s broke.
Social Security was established in 1935 - you’ve had 74 years to get it right; it’s broke.
Fannie Mae was established in 1938 - you’ve had 71 years to get it right; it’s broke.
The “War on Poverty” started in 1964 - you’ve had 45 years to get it right. $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to “the poor”; it hasn’t worked and our entire country is broke.
Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965 - you’ve had 44 years to get it right; they’re both broke.
Freddie Mac was established in 1970 - you’ve had 39 years to get it right; it’s broke.
Trillions of dollars were spent in the massive political payoffs called TARP, the “Stimulus,” the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009…. none show any signs of working, although ACORN appears to have found a new source: the American taxpayer.
And finally, to set a new record: “Cash for Clunkers” was established in 2009 and went broke in 2009! It took cars (that were the best some people could afford) and replaced them with high-priced and less-affordable cars, mostly Japanese. A good percentage of the profits went out of the country. And the American taxpayers take the hit for Congress’s generosity in burning three billion more of our dollars on failed experiments.
So, with a perfect 100% failure rate and a record that proves that “services” you shove down our throats are failing faster and deeper, you want Americans to believe you can be trusted with a government-run health care system- 20% of our entire economy???
With all due respect, Are you crazy? Or do you think the American people are?
Now put on your ruby red slippers, close your euyes, repeat government takeover three more times while you click your heels, and disappear. But to answer your question, for all the reasomns that I havbe stated in my many blogs that you do not want to read. I am not going to repeat myuself to someone who is not willing to accept an answer they don't want to hear and I am not going to repeat myself to someone who has made it clear that they do not want to read the answers to the questrions they ask. You're the one who cut your own throat big guy. Not me.
government takeover! government takeover! government takeover! the sky is falling!
Ya know, Kempite, maybe the government should have a handle on the country's health care "system". I mean, why not?
