Putting Ones Money Where Their Mouth Is

kempite
There haave only been two Mayors who have eventually gone on to become President of the United States. They were Grover Cleveland and Calvin Coolidge. Cleveland was Mayor of Buffalo then Governor of New York and finally President of the United States. Coolidge was once Mayor of his hometown in North Hampton, Massachusetts.

But history might just be in the making on Tuesday.

For the first time in U4Prez history, a U4Prez candidate may actually take his online politics to the real world as he assumes the position of Mayor of his Pennsylvania town.

Port Matilda Pennsylvania may not be a megalopolis but to those that live there, the issues they face are just as serious and just as important as they are to those living in New York City, San Diego or Miami. That is why after winning the Republican nomination for Mayor of Port Matilda the representatives of the town will heavily weigh a decision that could install Mduminiak as their Mayor.

After Democrats in Port Matilda failed to get their nominee on the ballot, the current Mayor abruptly resigned and now the town council must fill the vacancy with someone who can govern during the remaining months of the resigned Mayor’s term.

Having won the Republican nomination and right to run for a full term as Mayor in November, the council is likely to turn to Mduminiak.

Mduminiak has already distinguished himself as the first U4Prez candidate to become the official nominee of any political party but should the council appoint him to fill out the term of the last Mayor, he will distinguish himself as the first candidate on U4Prez to actually become an elected civic official.

This accomplishment will confirm two things.

One, U4Prez can actually help to inspire and enable participants to actually take their politics to the streets, put their money where their mouths are and run for elected office.

The second thing it proves is my taste in people.

Since the early days of U4Prez, I was impressed by Mduminiak’s demeanor, ability to articulate his case and his sense of responsibility. In time I came to know Mduminiak a bit more and eventually I found myself naturally connected with him as a friend. That friendship allowed us to even meet. That milestone was documented on video for all to see.

I believe I connected with Mduminiak because of several reasons. As a person he is real. There are no pretenses with him. He is what he is, does what he does and believes what he believes without any apologies or excuses. He is even willing to admit that, since he is only human, he may lack some humility at times.

Another reason I connected with him was because of his flare for creativity and his sense of humor. After reciting, from memory I might add, page 5 or 6 of the Federalist Papers, with a disarming flow, he can segue right into an out of the blue joke that often goes much deeper than any prima facie meanings.

On top of that Mduminak is a caring individual who practices what he preaches and looks out for his fellow man and not through government programs but through sincere and personal assistance.

Add all this to the fact that, as a person involved in politics, I am not always able to discuss political matters with fellow involved colleagues. A poker face is often necessary in politics, even with those you suspect to be on your side. But many a time, I have been able to steam off on or bounce ideas off of Mduminiak . The combination of his interest, understanding, concern, love of challenge and beliefs has always made him a viable shoulder for me to cry on.

To me Mduminiak is not just a fellow Republican in an online debate. He is a friend and I have come to value his opinion and respect the person that he is. He is the type of person who the citizens of Port Matilda should feel honored to have lead them as their Mayor.

He is different from many of your typical politicians. Unlike many of them, he does not seek the office of Mayor for any financial remunerations, or the ability to dole out patronage posts or for fame and glory. He runs because he wants to make changes. He runs because he does not want to sit idly by on a computer and debate his opinions and ideas, he wants to implement them.

Oh, knowing what I know of Mduminiak, as Mayor, I am sure it will not always be smooth sailing for him. He is going to frustrate a few people here or there just as he has done on U4Prez. But in the end, I believe the people of Port Matilda will be better off for it.

So mark Tuesday on your U4Prez calendar because it may become the day that the first U4Prez candidate may take office and go beyond the confines of online debate as he governs his real life community.

And like two other prominent Mayors, once Mduminiak has gotten the job under his belt, there just might be a few higher offices involved. I won’t suggest that Mduminiak run against my favorite choice for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2012 but can you say State Senator Duminiak?

As I wrote earlier today, anything can happen in politics where logic and merit don't always define decision making. Such was the case this evening when the Borough Council appointed an existing employee who can't even do the job he's paid for and can't serve as Mayor until he quits, somthing that won't happen until the end of July at the earliest. Go figure. I won the primary and the guy they appointed didn't even run. Unqualified, unable to assume the office for more than a month, unsubmitted to the voters...BUT the buddy of those in power. I'll just have to whoop 'em again in November.
I would like to add, to all those who have no already done so, please "join my campaign" here on u4prez on my profile. Also, if you are on facebook - please also become a supporter of my political profile there by looking up Michael H Duminiak.
I certainly was not expecting to read a blog such as this today. I'm really at a loss as to what I should say except that if my wife read it, she might start to feel jealous. Joking aside, I am truly overwhelmed by this blog. At the same time I find myself nervous about this evenings meeting of the Borough Council. I do a lot of public speaking, some minor acting and occasional trumpet performances - sometimes I even do some singing - but for all of those, even televised ones, I never get nervous. Call it self-confidence (if you like me) or arrogance (if you don't), I rarely get nervous about anything because I am always sure of myself and that I am doing my best and doing the right thing. There are a few rare times when I am nervous like I am today. They are the times when I have put myself out there and must await judgment on my worth to someone else. Two times come to mind. Four years ago when I was running for mayor the first time, I went to a Council meeting armed with a fist full of evidence that one of the members of the Council was not legally allowed to serve and had also falsified his election and financial disclosure filings. I presented my case and the Council refused to make any comment, let alone take any action. A few months later that Council member did resign, but only after the pressure applied during my and my friends' campaigns resulted in a near rout of the incumbents on election day. Presenting that case of fraud, not knowing what the Council or that former member would do in response made me nervous. I was also nervous eight and a half years ago when I proposed and waited for what seemed an eternity, but was likely only one second for my now wife to respond. There are a few other times in the past decade when I have been nervous, but only slightly so. It is a feeling I rarely have to suffer and it is going to be a very long day. While I am confident that based on logic and merit I am the obvious and best choice for Mayor, this is politics - a place where logic and merit don't always form the basis of decision making. In politics, anything can happen.
Kempite is right on that one. Ferguson was not elected. He was simply running for office. Or was he? I mean, he cross-dressed in real life. Who is to say that the whole thing was a facade or illusion? Was he male or female? Was he really who he says he was? Did he even know?......LOL!
Ferguson was not the first elected official. Fergusson was one of two U4Prez candidates who was running for President on a third party line and only in Kansas. The other was trying to get the Republican nomination for President. Neither were or are elected officials.
oh yeah brin i thought that was a pre-requisite to run for office as a republican either be a cross dresser or gay...but in public you have to say that you are immoral and will burn in hell and are destroying the youth of our country and destroying families and trying to take over religion and all that stuff
Lucky... that was silly. Cross-dress/Republican is redundant.
ferguson lucky
Sorry about butchering the name. lol
Anyways ... congrats to Mdumniak.
Actually, I think that the candidate from Kansas that was a cross-dresser / Republican was the first elected official on U4prez. I can't remember their name .. but I think that guy/sometimes girl was the first. Maybe someone can remember their name?
great news!!!!! Go Mduminiak!!!!! good luck and God bless
